In the Artwork's provenance, we cannot add a sub-agent when there is no Source. For adding one, we have to put an agent in Source, then add a sub-agent, then remove the Source. It is possible that a private collector bought a artwork from an auction sale through somebody.

This is exactly that: we do not have a source sometimes because consignor or owner is unknown.

To clarify the example you have given, in this case you would have an auction linked, a sub-agent and a receiver, but you do not have a source, because the consignor is unknown, is that correct?
Until we are able to address this problem, please try using the "Agents" section that is further down below the receiver. You can add an agent there and choose the role "sub-agent". Currently you won't be able to see the sub-agent within the the event, but when you close it, you will see the person in the provenance rendering ("purchased at a above sale through ...").
