Not all images are created equal.
They usually have a metric such as DPI but in some cases also have different levels of quality even at the same DPI.
  1. Prevent zooming beyond a certain DPI so users are not greeted by pixels and compression artifacts.
  2. Allow for manual control of zoom levels for cases where quality is not as strong.
